ONLINE: Exploring Art Through The Artists: Joseph De Matteo Zoom Workshop

NEW SERIES!
Each month, we will travel around the world to explore past and current artists, their works, and unique styles. Our special program will include hands-on art making in the style of the featured artist. Expect a lot of color, imagination, and surprises as we create our own masterpieces!

AUGUST FEATURED ARTIST: Joseph De Matteo

Joseph De Matteo lives in Ossining, NY and has been painting since his early 20s. Joseph appreciates the therapeutic value of creating artwork, so he runs workshops for people who are in recovery, people who have mental illness, and for anyone who finds the creative process to be stimulating, fun, and calming - giving them a part of their lives in which they have control. Over the decades, he has explored landscapes, abstracts, portraits, and still lifes. Sometimes, he combines a few styles, like hiding faces or objects in what looks like an abstract at first glance. Joseph also does mixed media, which means using different kinds of materials on one piece of art. He mainly uses acrylic and latex paint, but many of his painting have sand plastered to the canvas to make them look textured and to give them depth. He also uses ink and pastels.

Come join us on Zoom (10am - 12pm) for a painting presentation!

Before that, you'll want to gather the following materials: A sponge or 2, a paintbrush, disposable gloves (it can get messy!), a canvas board or heavy watercolor paper, 4 tubes of paint, and a plastic or paper plate for a palette. Make sure you paint your canvas/paper with one of your 4 colors prior to the workshop so it is dry and we can get right to work!
